Do the right thing. It's Self Evident.

An email link to your Self Evident crime report is sent automatically to the relevant police team in England and Wales. The police will get back to you by email or by phone and you can check when they access your report by logging onto your account at JustEvidence.org.

Enhanced response

The majority of police forces in England & Wales follow the advice of the Home Office and the Association of Chief Police Officers and handle Self Evident crime reports in their HQ. These presently are Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire, Cheshire, Cumbria, Dyfed-Powys, Essex, Gloucestershire, Gwent, Hampshire, Hertfordshire, Kent, Lancashire, Leicestershire, Merseyside, Metropolitan Police (London), Greater Manchester, Norfolk, Northumbria, North Wales, North Yorkshire, South Wales, South Yorkshire, Staffordshire, Suffolk, Surrey, Sussex, Thames Valley (Berkshire, Buckinghamshire & Oxfordshire), Warwickshire, West Mercia (Herefordshire, Shropshire & Worcestershire) and West Yorkshire.

Basic response

In the remaining areas of England & Wales, reports are sent automatically to the local police team using the Home Office API which connects the public to their local police team. By logging onto your report in your account at Just Evidence, you can see which this police team is and so if you are concerned about their delay in the getting back to you, you can easily phone them on 101 (calls cost a flat rate of 15p) for an update.

It's your report

If you want to share your report with a third party - say an insurer, a lawyer, a charity supporting victims of the particular crime or, if you are making a complaint, to the IPCC - you can save and download a copy of your report and evidence from your account and forward it to them by email. If they also want a certificate validating the evidence, you can provide this to them yourself or authorise them to get an original certificate for free.

Feedback

This service also allows you to provide confidential feedback about the service you have received from the police.  You can do this by logging onto to your report and clicking the Feedback button. We ensure there is no chance that your feedback can be linked to you or your report.
